Our approach is not simply to provide a diagnosis. We aim to understand the whole person, including their health, development, education, work, relationships, daily functioning, emotional regulation and future support needs.

"ADHD diagnosis is the start of understanding what support someone needs, not the end of the process."
In adults, ADHD can affect many areas of life.
Difficulty sustaining focus, especially when interest fades or tasks feel routine.
Knowing what needs to happen, but struggling to set it in motion.
Five minutes and an hour can feel similar. Time slips past unnoticed.
Acting or speaking before fully thinking it through.
Feelings arriving at full intensity, sometimes faster than expected.
An internal sense of being unable to settle, even at rest.
Long-standing self-doubt despite obvious capability.
Recurring friction or disconnection in close relationships.
Many adults reach assessment after years of feeling misunderstood, under-supported, or unsure why daily life feels harder than it seems to for others. A good assessment should help make sense of these patterns carefully and clinically.

Many women and later-diagnosed adults describe years of masking, overcompensating, self-criticism or feeling that they are "just not trying hard enough".
ADHD may present differently across life stages and can be affected by hormonal changes, including puberty, menstrual cycle changes, pregnancy, perimenopause and menopause.
Our assessment approach takes these wider life-stage factors into account.
Start with ADHD screeningADHD can affect mental health, relationships, education, work, physical health and day-to-day functioning. It may also interact with anxiety, mood, trauma, sleep, appetite, hormonal changes, substance use, confidence, burnout and stress. Our assessments take time to understand:
ADHD diagnosis is the start of understanding what support someone needs, not the end of the process.
ADHD Direct is a specialist healthcare service providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing support for ADHD and related neurodevelopmental needs. Our team has experience across mental health, general medicine, paediatrics and neurodevelopmental care.
We aim to make the assessment process clear, supportive and therapeutic.
Online forms and questionnaires set the foundation.
Before the assessment, you will be asked to complete online forms and questionnaires. These help your clinician understand your background, current symptoms, developmental history, medical history and areas of difficulty before you attend.
Where appropriate, we may also ask for supporting information from someone who knew you in childhood or knows you well now.
The adult ADHD assessment usually lasts around two hours and is completed by a qualified ADHD clinician.
The appointment includes a detailed clinical assessment, using a combination of:
The aim is to understand whether your difficulties are best explained by ADHD, another condition, or a combination of factors.
A clear explanation of your outcome, and a conversation about what comes next.
If ADHD is diagnosed, we will discuss treatment and support options. These may include:
Following assessment, you will receive a clinical outcome and written report.
The report can help support discussions around reasonable adjustments, education, workplace support, Access to Work, Disabled Students' Allowance, treatment planning and GP liaison.
Shared care with a GP may be possible for some patients once medication is stable, but this decision always remains with the GP practice.
We will still aim to provide a clear explanation of the assessment outcome and, where possible, signpost to more appropriate support.
ADHD Direct is more than an assessment service. We provide ongoing support after diagnosis where this is clinically appropriate.
Medication can be prescribed privately when indicated and safe to do so. Medication is not suitable or necessary for everyone, and decisions are made carefully, taking account of health, personal preference, risks, benefits and monitoring requirements.
For patients who do start medication, regular review is important.
Once a patient is stable, shared care with their GP may be requested. Many patients successfully move to shared care, but this is always at the GP's discretion.
A deposit may be required at the time of booking to secure your appointment.
One specialist clinical assessment with a written diagnostic report. Online across the UK or face-to-face in Glasgow.
Medication review appointments and follow-up appointments are charged separately. Some stable patients may be eligible for free medication review appointments as part of our shared care review pathway.
A whole-of-life service. You can return to us in the future if further ADHD-related support is needed.
Real reviews left by clients on Google. We have selected those that describe the service and process, not outcomes. Individual experiences vary.

Book an adult ADHD assessmentNo. National guidance does not state that ADHD must only be diagnosed by a psychiatrist.
ADHD should be diagnosed by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional with training and expertise in ADHD assessment and diagnosis. This may include a specialist psychiatrist, paediatrician, GP with extended role, specialist nurse, pharmacist or other appropriately trained clinician.
Adult ADHD assessments are available online across the UK or in person at our Glasgow clinic.
If ADHD is diagnosed, your clinician will discuss treatment options with you. Medication may be one option, but it is not the only option.
Any medication decision will consider clinical suitability, safety, medical history, personal preference and monitoring requirements.
Shared care may be requested once medication is stable, but this is always the GP's decision. If shared care is not accepted, private prescribing may continue through ADHD Direct where clinically appropriate.
A diagnostic report may help support discussions about reasonable adjustments, education, university support, Access to Work or workplace adaptations. Final decisions sit with the relevant employer, education provider or organisation.
If ADHD is not diagnosed, your clinician will explain the reasons for this and, where possible, discuss other factors that may better explain your difficulties or support needs.
